Army List: Tyranids MC close combat

After a few days of digesting the codex, I come to the realization that the codex is really pushing players to field the latest units to be competitive.

With old school Carnifex, at T6 W4 3+Sv, it is defenseless against missile launchers. Missile launchers are cheap and everywhere. Common sense will direct players to field Trygon. At 6 wounds each, it will usually take 2 turns to kill 1. Field enough, the rest of the army will reach your line around turn 3.

Everyone is aware that 3 of the new MC in the codex does not have any official models yet. Everyone seems to be busy doing conversion. I don’t like doing conversion on my already painted army. I want to make an army list that can bring my 4e army to 5e army with minimum work but stay workable. This brings me to come up with this army list.

HQ
01 Hive Tyrant (Heavy Venom Cannon, Lash Whip/Bonesword | Leech Essence, Paroxysm)
01 Tyrant Guard
01 Hive Tyrant (Heavy Venom Cannon, Lash Whip/Bonesword | Leech Essence, Paroxysm)
01 Tyrant Guard
TROOP
10 Termagant (Fleshborer)
10 Termagant (Fleshborer)
01 Tervigon (Crushing Claws, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands, Catalyst)
01 Tervigon (Crushing Claws, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands, Catalyst)
HEAVY SUPPORT
02 Carnifex (02 Scything Talons, Frag Spines, Adrenal Glands)
02 Carnifex (02 Scything Talons, Frag Spines, Adrenal Glands)

1750pts. 10+KP

Deployment plan:
Termagants will deploy in front of the Tyrants in the middle of the board.
Carnifex on the flanks of Tyrant column with Tervigon behind the Carnifex.

Tervigon will cast Catalyst on the Carnifex which will grant the whole MC brood with 4+ “cover” as they advance up the table.

I expect half the army will die as it advance up the table, and once there it will create havoc and panic!

It’s a list that tries to play to Tyranids strength, that is being a CC strong army, and at the same time stay fluffy. Most importantly, it takes my 4e list into a 5e list with almost no conversion.

Now to try some games to see how this work out.

    1. I have thought about this.

On objective games, I’ll just head towards 3 objectives and bunker up. Sooner or later they have to come close to claim/contest. I’ll hope for the best. If they tries to tank shock, I WILL death of glory.

On KP games, just have to try corner the opponent. A 12″ front and back assault range, gives them a total of about 27″ (12″+12″+3″ from base of model) distance to cover to run out of my MC charge range.

      Hope for the best. 🙂
