Mission: Annihilation
Deployment: Dawn of War

Wolves won roll and let Chaos goes first. Chaos deployed Daemon Prince and 02 Chaos Marines in Rhino.

Both Terminators squad and Obliterators in reserves to deepstrike.
Wolves deployed nothing.

Turn01
Chaos: Everything came onto the board. Both Chaos Marines squad disembarked and Rhino moved up to form a blockage line. Bikers turbo-boosted 20″. No shooting.

SW: 02 Greyhunters in Drop pod came in along with everything else except 01 Wolfguard. Greyhunters made a bold move and deep struck amongst Chaos. Rest came in from the table edge. A drop pod scattered on to terrain and failed dangerous terrain check, destroying its storm bolters. Greyhunters shot a Chaos Marines squad and killed 3, the other Greyhunter squad shot Daemon Prince but didn’t do any damage.

Turn02
Chaos: 01 Terminator squad and both Obliterators squad came in from reserves. Last Chaos Marines disembarked. They shot at the Greyhunters and killed a couple. Terminators combi melta greyhunters and kill 2. Daemon Prince flew out and used Wind of Chaos and killed more. Obliterators plasma cannon Thunderwolf Calvary but did no damage due cover saves. Greyhunters suffered heavy casualties and fail both their morale check and fall back out of Daemon Prince charge range.

SW: Both Greyhunters continue to fall back due within 6″ of enemy. Space Wolves continues to move up.  Greyhunter shot a Rhino with meltagun and whack it. Iron Priest charged 3rd Rhino but only manages a shaken result. 1 Calvary charged last Rhino and destroys it.

Turn03
Chaos: Last Terminator squad still in reserves. Chaos unloaded everything they could and wipe out the Calvary that destroyed the Rhino. Daemon Prince flew closer to Greyhunters and casted wind of chaos and killed more. Unfortunately, Daemon Prince failed difficult terrain check and can’t assault the Greyhunters. Last surviving Rhino moved a bit to continue block passage. Obliterators plasma cannon Iron Priest and kills 1 cyberwolf. 1 Chaos Marines squad rapid fire Iron Priest killing 2 cyberwolves. Iron Priest failed morale check and fall back.

SW: Iron Priest auto rallied, moved and charged Obliterators. Iron Priest wiped the Obliterators. Canis and 1 wolf pack, 2nd Iron Priest assaulted bikers and Canis single handedly wipe the bikers before anybody else can to swing the weapon. 2nd wolf pack assaulted Terminators and forced 13 armor saves, failing 2 and was swept. Wolfguard drop pods in and shot at Daemon Prince, took 2 wounds off the Prince. Thunderwolf Calvary managed to roll high enough in difficult terrain check and assaulted Daemon Prince, killing the Prince too in this assault phase.

Turn04
Chaos: Surviving 3 squads of Chaos Marines, destroyed 2 drop pods with meltagun. Obliterators flamed a wolf pack and killed 7, wolf pack passed morale check.
SW: Pretty much game over for Chaos. Space wolves killed everything off.

Victory to Space Wolves.

POST GAME

  1. Chaos player in my humble opinion did a few glaring mistakes. It’s obvious that 2 drop pods with melta guns will be coming down on turn 1 since both exchanged army list before the game begins. Chaos player should have deployed anti drop pod strategies that is to either bubble wrap the Rhino to push melta guns more than 6″ away from the Rhino OR simply pop smoke.
  2. Disembarking from Rhino for no reason is meaningless. They are leaving the protection of the Rhino when 2 melta guns are still able to shoot out from Rhino hatch.
  3. Rhino with embarked squads will also carry them further away from static Greyhunters whom has already deployed via Drop pods, and subsequently putting more distance away from Calvary.
  4. Terminators used up their combi-melta shots on Greyhunters on turn02 is another bad move. In a way, the suicidal Greyhunters had achieved it’s goal by making the Chaos player waste the melta shot on them.
  5. Chaos also didn’t fully utilized Bikers strength. They were only used for anti vehicle duty but against infantry, they become confused. What could have been done was to stay about 24″ away and kite units. This is tricky as Calvary mounted units have a potential charge range of 24″. Better to kite than do nothing.
  6. Daemon Prince was a sad prince. Failing to charge units for 2 turns and getting charged by Thunderwolf Calvary. Sad.
  7. Obliterators did a good job overall.
  8. Overall Space Wolf units did pretty well. Units did what they were suppose to do.

Great game overall. Hope Mark and Defu had a good game too. We talked a lot more post game to help Mark improve his game by suggesting  to perhaps field more Obliterators since they are a constant performer in his games. And take another Daemon Prince.

Cheers.

  1. This is the testimony of “many know how to build a list but do not know how to use the list.”

Mech armies are easy to build, but not everybody knows how to play them efficiently

Infantry leaving their transports is a common mistake until the player learns it the hard way. The 3+ AS is a over-estimated comfort zone.

I think he’ll have a more consistent list if he ditches the Terminators and add one more DP and bulk up his Oblitz.

He can even upgrade the Marines to plague marines for more tough objective holders.
