Battle Report: Space Wolves vs Tyranids

Yoho everybody. It’s another battle report of an afternoon spent with a great gaming buddy, Ralph. He has tune his Space Wolves quite well but I think it still can be improved. So to prove the point, I used Tyranids to bring him away from MEQ meta gaming.

Failing to seize initiative…

TURN01

Everybody moved towards the left. Nothing much happens.

Wolves didn’t move and just fire away.

TURN02

Doom of Malan’tai arrived and deepstrike on the right flank. It wiped out the LongFang squad in the building and reduce the 2nd LongFang squad with only the RunePriest left. Hive Guard on the left also weapon destroyed a Razorback. Hive Tyrant reduced the LongFang squad size to 2 with Devourer.

Wolves tries to make their escape. RunePriest JotWW on Hive Tyrant and Tervigon but both passed their initiative test. Razorback on the right shoots Mycetic Spore and instant kills it. RunePriest charges in to Doom, got killed.

TURN03

Tyranids closes in. Shooting from Hive Tyrant wipes the RunePriest squad. Hive Guard wrecks Dreadnoughts. Razorback immobilized and another weapon destroyed. Doom failed IB test, shot at nearest Dreadnought and removed an arm.

Dreadnoughts continue to shoot at Doom, reducing it wounds by a bit and charges in. They will be tied up for the rest of the game.

TURN04

Razorback tries to shoot Hive Guard but they made their cover saves or simply took a wound. Tyranids continue to closes in.

TURN05

Main Tyranid brood continues to close in. Immobilizing the 2nd Rhino. Hive Tyrant charges an immobilized Razorback and destroys it.

Disembarked Greyhunters shot and flamed the Termagant reducing it to 2 models.

TURN06

Hive Tyrant assaults into Razorback and wrecks it. 2nd Hive Tyrant successfully cast Paroxysm on Greyhunter squad and assaulted by 2 Harpies, wipe them out.

Last efforts by the Space Wolves and game ended.

POSTGAME

  • Ralph did pretty well but he is too used to playing against MEQ that he deployed his units according to a pre-plan strategy against MEQ. Longfangs infront of Razorbacks to grant cover saves but this doesn’t work against Tyranids.
  • Doom of Malan’tai did superbly but atlas, it’s the last time it being this good since the FAQ is out. Still I believe the damage is done. People to fear it for awhile.
  • Ralph shooting priority are spot on but needs to adjust general strategy when playing against Tyranids. Probably should have moved 6″ away from my main brood that is heading their way every turn. Every turn that allows him to shoot, is a turn to his advantage.
