PI campaign game 6: Tyranids vs Orks

It’s the last game of the campaign. Orks had decided to attack Tyranids controlled tile and game is set.

As usual the pointage of army is shrouded until the game itself. It’s 3k points of Orks vs 4450 points of Tyranids. Mission was blitzkrieg taken from the battle mission book.

Realizing the mission greatly favored the Orks. Worse case scenario was they had so many fast attack models, they can use the 2 turns to reach our deployement table edge and block us out completely. Forcing an easy win without any fighting.

So I constructed an army list to try counter, using spore mines and Swarmlord + Hive Tyrant with hive commander upgrade.

Deployment:

The hormagaunts are acting as spore mines.

Since there is nothing for the Tyranids to do for turn 1 & 2, the Orks just zoom around doing nothing. Phew, the spore mines did they work! The Orks didn’t try to block us off.

Turn 2 comes around and almost everything came in. Genestealers all outflanked along with 1 Tervigon and 1 brood of Carnifex.

The Genestealers concentrated on the right flank and Carnifexes concentrated on our left flank. Since this game is played by 2 person per faction, I was incharge of the left flank and my partner the right. In summary on the left flank, Devourer armed Carnifex just dakka the Orks down with impossible casualties. The deepstriking Mycetic Spores attempt to block the trukk passage but deviated off mark. Nonetheless, Hive Guards easily took out the Trukk. The 30size Ork boyz were gunned down in 2 turns. Armored Nobs were similarly dakka down. A brood of Carnifex was gunned down by Defkoptas. Needless to say the Termagants are easily dispatched with the Orks assaulted in. By turn 6 there is nothing left on the left flank.

Meanwhile on the right flank, things are looking good also.

We secured a massacre, wiping off 3000 points of Orks and losing 2000 points of Tyranids in the process.

POST GAME
A comment given was how we were throwing units away to feed the Orks. If hadn’t done that we could drastically reduced our casualty. Our throw away units were Mawlocs (which was included in case lootas were fielded), Doom (to counter bikers), Termagants in Spores and outflanking Tervigon and a brood of Carnifex. In defence, those unit did their role. They attracted attention and halt the advances of Ork. We were able to secure the objectives most of the game.
